New Bahamian Goverment!
Ten days ago, May 7th, 2012 The Bahamas elected a new government, led by the Right. Honourable Perry G. Christie. Congrats to my home town. The victory was a kind of vindication for Mr. Christie having being beaten by the then former prime minister and now former prime minister, the Right. Honourable Hubert A. Ingraham, 2007.
Having said all of that I wish the new government all the best success. The victory was a landslide, having won 29 out of the 38 seats available. The Bahamian people have spoken, God is with them.

Former Premier, Turks and Caicos Islands- warrant out for the arrest of Michael Misick!
Just when you thought it was over, they came right back again. See here an article from the Jamaica Gleaner, stating that Michael Misick has been issued a Red Notice (provisional warrant for those facing extradition) for his arrest by Interpol.

Can't say we have not warned him, he was out of order for years now. Since he was ousted back in, 2009 he has been on the lamb and away from the authorities.

Brazil is on the queit!
There is nothing much to report on Brazil as of late, aside from the issue of two key resignations of cabinet ministers this last year: Defence Minister, Nelson Jobim and Labour Minister Carlos Lupi. This year has seen the resignation of Mario Negromonte, Minister of Transport.
The instability of President Rousseff's cabinet is absolutely insane. When things happen like this, so early in the game for a first time president- whether it is in the developed world or a developing country like Brazil, which can be classified as a BRIC, medium sized country- it means one of two things: 1. the ministers and personnel were thrust upon a leader and that leader was forced to work with these people and their imperfections and they too were ill-equipped for handling the task at hand; or 2. the president, him/her self, is corrupt and using his/her ministers as scapegoats for his or her wrong doings (which is a highly unlikely scenario). Either which way, it's not good to see this play out. Because the very next question is with regard to "when will the other resignations happen, and why?".
Needless to say that these are very interesting times in Brazilian politics. But the country has remained stable, which is pretty much fine with the rest of Latin America.
What's surprising through it all is that Brazil is not undertaking a massive food aid programme worth over $2 million dollars with cooperation from the FAO, which is pegging food assistance to developing countries in need in Africa-Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger and Senegal.
This is a good thing. Brazil is taking a page out of China's book with regard to developmental aid in Africa, even though this input is rather small.
Another issue which should have regional heads turning; Brazil is now in the process of increasing its arms and defence production in the Latin American region. America must be pleased (not!). The intent is to capture the Latin American market in defence and also produce economies of scale to mass production in arms globally. Interesting!

GOP Presidential race heating up...
Never have I been so amazed at a bunch of men, rushing to NOT be the President of he USofA as I have seen with the current crop of GOP (Republican) candidates.
Here we have it, down to the big three + 1. Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts; Newt Gingrich, former congressman and Speaker of the House; and Former Senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum. The + 1 is the perpetual candidate, Ron Paul.
Well, we know it took is quite some time to go to this point. The only other potential winner was taken out to the barn yard and shot, PR wise- Governor of Texas, Rick Perry. He simply was not presidential material and could not stand the test of time and has thrown his endorsement behind Newt Gingrich.
The other potential winner, Herman Cain, a business man, was sent back to his home in disgrace. He has now come out in support of Newt Gingrich as well.
The supposed front-runner, Mitt Romney, had taken a beating over the last few weeks due to a surge by former Speaker of the House, Gingrich, who maintained a blistering attack!
As I type, Governor Romney has just now won the Florida Caucus over Gingrich and Santorum. This was after he had lost the South Carolina caucus to Gingrich a few weeks back.
But, after all of the damage that each are doing to the other, what shape would they be in to take on President Obama? They are weakening themselves.
So, as it appears, attack ads aren't that effective in Florida. More on this as things develop...

New kids on the block- Greece and Italy!
Well, in case you have not heard, Greece has a new prime minister and his name is Lucas Papademos who is an economist by training and former Governor of the Central Bank in Greece. He takes over from former prime minister George Papandreou, who decided to step down amidst pressure from Greece's- and now Europe's- well know debt crisis.
And in Italy, long time prime minister and Italian export, Silvio Burlesconi, has also decided to step down as prime minister of Europe's fourth largest economy amidst similar debt related issues. His successor is Mario Monti, who is also an economist by training as is his counterpart in Greece and was a former Goldman Sach's executive.
Very interesting things indeed...
